Waterloo Station 2020

Waterloo Station 2020 -
Mementos’are the miniscule quirky images incorporated within
my main drawings. Although easily overlooked and apparently inconsequential they are actually
significant personal reminders of people or events. Here is the list of ‘mementos’.

• A brewery lorry advertising Adnams ‘Ghost Ship’. A 4.5% Pale Ale and Paul’s cousin
Richard’s (1958-2017) favourite beer.
• Lyrics to the 1967 hit ‘Waterloo Sunset’ composed by Ray (now Sir Ray) Davies of The
Kinks. Ranked No. 42 on Rolling Stones 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.
• A yellow three wheeler Reliant Regal van and Del Boy holding a bunch of flowers.
Homage to an iconic ‘Only Fools and Horses’ Christmas Special episode first broadcast
on the 25th December 1988. ‘Del Boy’ Trotter meets Raquel for the first time under the
clock at the busiest railway station in the U.K. Cushtie!
• Two of the four dials of the famous Waterloo Concourse Clock are displayed on the side
of a truck. The clock made by Gents of Leicester has been a romantic rendevous point
since the early 1920’s.
• A ‘Flying Pig’ over one of the largest brick built buildings in the world. From the cover of
the Pink Floyd studio album ‘Animals’, and one of Paul’s and his cousin Richard’s
favourite LPs.
• A silhouette of Churchill referencing the bronze statue sculpted by Ivor Roberts-Jones. It
is located on a spot referred to in the 1950’s by Churchill as ‘‘where my statue will go’’.
• Three recent additions to the pelicans (named Sun, Moon and Star) living on the lake in
a famous royal park named after a leper hospital. The original pelicans were a gift to
Charles II from the Russian Ambassador in 1664. They occasionally eat pigeons!
• My 1964 VW Beetle conveniently parked next to my signature.
